You may have seen reports of Microsoft Windows Vista Service Pack 1 floating on the net by now. I stumbled a couple of links and torrents on several discussion boards but most of them are either RC1 (Refresh 1), Fakes or just plain old Trojans. Surely, a lot of people doesn’t want to wait several days to get a hold of their own copy and install it on there system.
For couple of days, the only people who can get a valid Vista Service Pack 1 are some beta testers and people who have an MSDN accounts. Luckily, several people made this available to the general public, so you don’t need to wait until March to get a hold of Vista Service Pack 1. You have two ways on getting the Service Pack.

With Windows Vista SP1 going gold, Windows Server 2008 is also being released to manufacturing on the same date and will be available to new customers on March 1.
Microsoft Volume Licensing customers with active Microsoft Software Assurance coverage or an Enterprise Agreement will be able to download the new Server software toward the end of February as part of the joint Microsoft SQL Server 2008 and Visual Studio 2008 Heroes Happen Here launch event.
Microsoft is due to formally launch Windows Server 2008 on February 27 at an event in Los Angeles.

After much speculations, rumors, hype and the likes, Windows Vista Service Pack 1 goes Gold. Today, Microsoft announced that Vista SP1 has RTM’ed (Released To Manufacturers) and will be made available to the public in mid-March. Unlike previous service packs from Microsoft, Vista SP1 is more on bug fixes and performance enhancement rather than a “feature added” release.
Service Pack 1 is a very important milestone because it addresses many of the key issues that our customers have identified with Windows Vista over the last year both, directly and through programs like the Customer Experience Improvement Program. With Service Pack 1, we have made great progress in performance, reliability and compatibility.

Dell finally listens and in response to feedback from Dell customers who want Linux on more hardware and in more countries, Dell has announced that starting today, customers in Germany, United Kingdom, France and now Spain can purchase Ubuntu Linux 7.10 with built-in DVD playback on the XPS 1330n (in addition to the previously-released Inspiron 530n desktop system).
And if you haven’t heard yet, Dell has plans on entering the local PC market. So, are we going to expect a Ubuntu Pre-installed Dell PC on our shores? I’m hoping that it would be a “yes”.
