If you're new here, you may want to subscribe via RSS feed or Email. Thank you for visiting! After some delays, Automattic has finally released Wordpress 2.5 and is now available for download. The 2.5 branch is nicknamed “Brecker” in honor of Michael Brecker, an exceptionally talented saxophonist.

For a short overview of features with some screenshots, I suggest visiting the RC1 announcement. Or check the screencast of the new Wordpress interface in action. If you want to upgrade and go straight with the good stuff, I suggest checking your theme and plugins first to make sure that you won’t encounter some compatibility issues.
The improvements in 2.5 are numerous, and almost entirely a result of your feedback: multi-file uploading, one-click plugin upgrades, built-in galleries, customizable dashboard, salted passwords and cookie encryption, media library, a WYSIWYG that doesn’t mess with your code, concurrent post editing protection, full-screen writing, and search that covers posts and pages.

One of the things you need to consider to blog effectively is Technorati. Specifically, you need to know how to make it work to your advantage especially if you have plans on monetizing your blog.
At first, I was confused on how the system works and my ranking was stuck for months. Now its slowly going down (the lower the number is better) and I hope the trend will continue.

I hope everybody had a nice weekend. Anyway, it’s been a while since my last post mainly because of the things I need to finish and no thanks to my cable crap Internet connections which decided to play on-and-off on me for several days.
Here are some interesting news I gathered while browsing on an “almost” dial up cable Internet connection.

Microsoft Corp. today announced that it has made a proposal to the Yahoo! Inc. Board of Directors to acquire all the outstanding shares of Yahoo! The offer is unsolicited takeover offer of $44.6 billion (cash! wow!), seeking to join forces against Google in what would be the biggest Internet deal since the Time Warner-AOL merger in 2001.
“We have great respect for Yahoo!, and together we can offer an increasingly exciting set of solutions for consumers, publishers and advertisers while becoming better positioned to compete in the online services market,” said Steve Ballmer, chief executive officer of Microsoft. “We believe our combination will deliver superior value to our respective shareholders and better choice and innovation to our customers and industry partners.”

If you haven’t notice yet, my blog is now sporting a new look since last week. After a couple of days of customizing the CSS and PHP scripts, I finally decided to launch the new theme. My blog is now back with the blue and white look which is quite similar to the theme I use last year. Unfortunately, I had to change that theme last 3 (or 4?) months ago because of some incompatibility issues after upgrading to Wordpress 2.3.

I’m not sure how many of you are having this problem but Google says it has fixed a problem that was causing Windows Mobile phone users to receive blank Gmail messages. I didn’t encounter any problems retrieving my emails since I am using a phone powered by Symbian. Anyway if you did encounter a problem with your GMail account, it should be working fine by now.
In October, Google began supporting IMAP for Gmail. That means messages that mobile users send or receive from their phones are synced with their Gmail accounts, appearing the next time users access their accounts from a computer. But shortly after the announcement, Windows Mobile users began complaining in online forums about problems.
