Good or bad idea? The person who came up with this idea have the intention to help out voters locating their voting precinct and making sure that the voter’s information is correct. With what expense you might ask? Well, it might just cost your privacy.
Comelec provided the list of voters of Metro Manila which can be downloaded as a PDF file and contains information such as precinct number, VRR, registration date and polling place. It also has the basic information such as your name and address. You might be thinking that your name and address is already listed like on a phone directory and there’s no need for concern.
The voters list they made is kind of unique because of the information it contains. How unique is it? It shows your full name (including the middle name!), complete address and birth date (so much of keeping your age a secret). Usually this information should be kept private but for an unknown reason, the government agency made it public.
You may now start saying hello to identity thieves once this information falls to the wrong hands. I’m not being paranoid but just imagine that someone can use this information to do devious acts. I already heard the horror stories about fraud SSS and bank loans, now with this information out in the Internet the risk of being vulnerable to these criminal activities goes up.
Just out of curiosity, I downloaded all the PDF documents for the voters that have a last name of “A”. It only took me less than 20 minutes to download 159 PDF documents with a total size of 68mb. A person can download all these files within half a day using a broadband connection at home or on a local Internet café. Good thing that the national ID system didn’t push through or we might see our SSS, TIN other personal information (picture?) online.
Now, you would really wonder on how these government agencies handle sensitive information and what other “ingenious” ideas these government officials will come up next.

Didn’t they have findprecinct.com before where voters only had to fill up a form?
I guess they really just had to think of more stupid ways of accomplishing things, huh? Come to think of it, whether it’s for cheating in the polls or helping the voters…it’s stupid! Either way!

Hmmm… findprecinct.com sounds familar. Anyway, their intensions are good, but they didn’t consider the consequence of their action. Its like an idiot discovered the Internet and an idea pops on his head… “Ohhhh lets put it online… it would be less troublesome for them and less work for us”

oo nga mga boplaks mga gumawa yan… hind nman ipinapakita yung mga list… puro last name lang nklagay.. tpos pag n click mo “FILE NOT FOUND” sana man lang nilagyan man sana nila ng “this site is under construction”… nakaka dismaya nman.. tpos ang yayabang pa maglagay ng website designer team kuno… asar….

Any request of the voter’s list will not be entertained. There’s a reason why Comelec removed it from their website. Its a privacy issue, so I hope there will be no future request about the list.

Hi I’m also trying to look for my dad. Haven’t met him and I’m already 47. If anyone could give me info on his whereabouts I’d really appreciate it. It seems marami pala tayo naghahanap ng dads natin and a friend suggested the comelec listing, guess I’m too late.
