Woot! 3/4 of a terabyte and that’s just the first 7200.10 Barracuda drive Seagate announced! We might see 1TB drives before the end of this year. I hope I can get one of these babies in my rig.

Two 750GB models have already shown up on the Seagate website. The Barracuda 7200.10 ST3750640A (PATA) and the ST3750640SA (SATA) will be two new models we can look forward to seeing this year. The Seagate webpage reveals dozens of other NCQ-ready 7200.10 based products ranging from 200GB on up. Cache information was not available via the website yet, but the official Seagate PDF claims the Barracuda 7200.10 series will come with 16MB and 8MB buffers. Considering these two drives will be the best of breed for Seagate, it is fairly safe to assume these drives will have 16MB caches.

THE PHILIPPINE Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) said it has decided to drop its six-year domain and trade name dispute against Gerry Kaimo, owner of the “pldt.com” domain name, in exchange for the latter’s agreement to turn over several domain names he owns.”It was not a money settlement. PLDT decided to drop the case after Kaimo decided to turnover the pldt.com and pldt.org domain names to us,” Ramon Isberto, PLDT spokesperson, told INQ7.net in a telephone interview.

The settlement ends one of the longest-running domain and trade name disputes in the Philippines between the country’s biggest telecommunications company and an individual.

I smell money involved in this so called “settelement”. Well, that’s just me of course.

Unlike Symbian phones, Windows Mobile phones don’t really need anti-virus software because there were no cases of virus infection yet… but several companies are trying to capitalize on fears of people and corporations…

Now also Kaspersky joins the party but unfortunately is not providing any trial version for download.

As a result of not very fast adoption rate of dual-core processors by new software that still does not take much advantage over the dual-core chips, as well as increased complexity of quad-core processors, the ramp up of quad core-chips will be slow in the first year of introduction, but will pick up later, when the infrastructure and new fabrication technology are ready.

“The ramp of quad-core should be very slow through the first year of introduction, with a push as the company enters the manufacturing [process] transition [from 65nm to 45 nm],” said Jim McGregor, the author of the most recent Microprocessor Report from In-Stat. Mr. McGregor believes that Intel Corp. would be “less aggressive on the move to quad-core for the PC than it has been with the dual-core transition” and expects initial adoption in low-end servers and high-end desktops only.

Microsoft plans to jazz up its music player in Windows Vista, the company’s next operating system. But at least some of the new features will debut much sooner. The software, which will be built into Vista, is designed to offer better synching with portable devices, make it easier to scroll through long libraries of music, and be tightly integrated with Urge, a new subscription and download music service co-developed by Microsoft and MTV Networks.

But while most people won’t be able to get their hands on Vista until next year, consumers will be able to get some of the media enhancements sooner. Microsoft is on track to release a Windows XP version of Windows Media Player 11 before the end of June, the company confirmed last week.
