Last October, I noticed that my Canon A70 digital camera exhibits distorted images while in shooting mode. After some research, I found out that it was known problem with the vendor-supplied CCD image sensor used by Canon. I then contacted the local distributor wherein they suggested bringing my camera for repairs for FREE. Normally, it will cost me around P5000 to have it repaired, good thing I was able to read Canon’s response about the malfunctioned CCD.
However, I still need to wait because of the large number of consumers affected with the same CCD problem. They told me that they are short on available parts and the next batch of CCD parts from Singapore will arrive this December. I was disappointed because of the long wait I have to bear but to my surprise they informed me that they can lend me a unit while my camera is being serviced.
Upon arriving at Canon Philippines main office, I was greeted by one of their customer relation personnel. She was very accommodating and even offered me a drink and some catalogs to read while waiting. This is the first time I felt that I was a very important part of their business and this is not very common here in the Philippines. I guess it’s because of the “almost” non-existent consumer protection here and most companies prefer to sacrifice after-sales support to minimize their expense.
She informed me that they can provide me a Canon Powershot A520 for FREE while I’m waiting for my camera to be repaired. I was very happy with their support and importance they give to consumers like me. Kudos to Canon Philippines and I hope that they will continue this kind of service in the future. Let see… free repair, free camera while waiting, very accomodating support staff… With my good experienced with them, I guess my next camera will be another Canon. ![]()
