Tofu’s HyperWRT version 8 and 9

Posted on | November 20, 2005 | No Comments

HyperWRT is a power boost firmware for the Linksys WRT54G. The goal of this project is to add a limited set of features to the last Linksys firmware, extending its possibilities but staying close to the official firmware. Tofu is one of the developers for the HyperWRT project.

Changes in 8:
- Adjusted daylight savings time behavior to end dst period >1am on the end day instead the day after it. ntpclient reduced to mini size.
- iptables updated to 1.3.3. TTL target added.
- Small adjustments in dhcp configuration. I’m breaking the protocol just a tiny bit: renew is now allowed even if the lease isn’t in the dhcp table to avoid disconnects when the table is cleared after the router reboots. There are some checks to avoid a collision, but if you do experience a problem, you can disable this behavior by using “nvram set dhcpquirk=0″.
- Fixed an accidentally left out a line for client mode. Enabling wet mode now disables dhcp by default. Various other changes.

Changes in 9:
- Fixed bytes transfer info in status page not updating.
- Fixed a problem with time not adjusting if daylight savings time was off, or 0. I’ve put back the end behavior to the way it was for now.

When I bought my Linksys router I was not satisfied because of its features (or the lack of it) compared to my previous Dlink router. Now, I’m very happy with my router using Tofu’s firmware build because of the features it enabled without any added cost. I’ve now been using this firmware for a couple of weeks now and this is one of the best modded firmware I tried so far.
